My Story
Hi, I’m Alcides.
I’m a multimedia storyteller and creative producer working at the intersection of environmental issues, culture, and media. My work spans video production, photography, digital communications, event production, and program management. Through storytelling and media, I aim to create projects that help people better understand the environmental and social challenges shaping our world.
I was born in El Salvador and immigrated with my family to the San Francisco Bay Area when I was eight years old. Living between these two places has shaped my perspective and continues to influence how I think about culture, community, and the stories we tell about the places we come from. From a young age, I was surrounded by stories—through family photo albums, movies, books, and art. I spent countless hours looking through photographs of my parents’ lives before I was born and moments from my own childhood. Those images sparked an early fascination with how stories are captured, remembered, and shared across generations. Years later, when I picked up a film camera, I realized I was continuing that same tradition of documenting the people, places, and moments around me.
During my time in school, I began connecting storytelling with larger social and environmental issues. I became interested in climate justice and the ways communities respond to environmental change. I started working with organizations and programs focused on climate education, activism, and community engagement. Through that work, I discovered the powerful role storytelling can play in helping people understand complex issues and imagine new possibilities for the future.
Much of this work came together during my time at Climate HQ at San Francisco State University. There, I gained hands-on experience producing media, organizing events, and helping support a growing climate education initiative on campus. My role allowed me to combine creative storytelling with program development—producing videos and digital communications while also helping design programs that connected students to climate education and action.
One of the most formative parts of this experience was helping lead the planning and production of Earth Week programming at the university. Earth Week brought together students, faculty, and community partners through panels, workshops, film screenings, and public events focused on climate action and environmental justice. Producing the week required coordinating speakers, organizing logistics, developing communications, and documenting events through media.
As the program grew, I also supervised and mentored a team of student interns who helped organize and produce the week’s events. At its peak, I worked with a group of seven students, guiding them through the process of event production, communications, and program coordination. Together we built a collaborative environment where students could gain real-world experience in organizing public programs and engaging with climate issues. Watching students develop their own skills and confidence through this work became one of the most rewarding parts of the experience.
Through this work, I developed strong skills in creative production, program management, event coordination, and community engagement. I learned how storytelling, strategic planning, and collaborative leadership can come together to build programs that not only share information, but also create spaces where people can learn, connect, and take action.
Today, my work continues to bring together storytelling, media production, and environmental engagement. I’m particularly interested in documenting environmental stories across cultures and communities, especially in places that are often overlooked in mainstream environmental narratives. As a Salvadoran-American, I’m also interested in exploring connections between identity, migration, culture, and environmental change.
Outside of my professional work, I continue to explore storytelling through photography, film, and creative projects that reflect my curiosity about culture, history, and the ways people make meaning through stories.
